Rifflandia is thrilled to partner with the Tegan and Sara Foundation (Tegan and Sara‘s newly-founded initiative fighting for economic justice, health and representation for LGBTQ girls and women) in piloting a Safer Spaces Initiative by pledging to do all we can to make our festival a truly inclusive environment for everyone.
So, what does this mean?
1. Rifflandia Festival will officially adopt, declare and uphold a Zero-Tolerance policy for Homophobia, Transphobia, Sexism, Racism and Religious Discrimination. Anyone attending, working, volunteering, or otherwise involved in the festival, is encouraged to report any such incidents to festival security personnel, harm reduction teams, and/ or venue captains. Alternatively, attendees are invited to email firstname.lastname@example.org, which will be monitored throughout the duration of the festival.Complaints will be taken seriously, treated with sensitivity and compassion, and dealt with accordingly.
2. Festival producers will work closely with all security personnel and venue staff to ensure these policies are upheld, and to ensure that people in positions of authority are given the information and resources they need to properly educate themselves on these important and critical issues.
3. In addition to portable facilities at the festival’s two main outdoor venues, Royal Athletic Park and Electric Avenue, All Gender washrooms will be made available festival wide.
This initiative is being developed by The Tegan and Sara Foundation with input from leading organizations working in the LGBTQ community to ensure the safety and comfort of all at music spaces and events such as ours.
